We want to recruit you
As we prepare for the celebration of 250 years of American concert song, we invite submissions to the new Song of America wiki. We can all work together to identify representative (or otherwise remarkable) song and poetry examples, especially Library of Congress manuscripts or significant prints to be digitized, illuminating the sweep of American song during the past two and a half centuries. The resulting online repository will thus develop into an unparalleled universally-available resource for American song and become a model available for other repertories.
Ground Rules
Anyone is welcome to add information, cross-references, or citations by clicking the edit button. The Hampsong Foundation will curate the materials, but others are free to act as what art museums call "guest curators" in their areas of expertise. Users need not worry unduly about accidentally damaging the database when adding or improving information, as others are always around to advise or correct obvious errors and the software is designed to allow easy reversal of mistakes.
Because a wiki is an ongoing work to which, in principle, anybody can contribute, it differs from a conventional reference source in important ways. Unlike a paper-based reference work, a wiki is continually evolving, with the creation or updating of items within seconds or minutes, rather than months or years for printed reference works. And, unlike conventionally-produced material, Internet content can be organized after the fact.
Development As We Go Forward
Since this wiki is a new departure, all ideas for its continuing development and organization are welcome and solicited.
So let's get started, shall we?

In the folder SONGS FOR THE SONG OF AMERICA COLLECTION there is an example of a suggested format for submissions, including a short description, supporting material, and a citation of the location of the item.
